Sony’s PlayStation TV is no longer being shipped in Japan

Sony’s PlayStation TV is no longer being shipped in Japan

Sony’s PlayStation TV is over in Japan, according to a translation of Japanese site AV Watch by Kotaku. According to that translation, Sony has confirmed that it will no longer ship PlayStation TVs in Japan. The last day of shipments is apparently today – “the end of February 2016.”
Sony’s Japanese product page for PlayStation TV also notes that it is no longer shipping.
Sony’s reasoning for phasing out the PlayStation TV in Japan? Strong PS4 and PS Vita sales in the region and little demand for the set top streaming device.
PlayStation TV launched outside of Japan in late 2014 and was billed as a micro console capable of streaming PS4 games and playing classic games as well as PS Vita titles. The system is still available in North America at select retailers for a very discounted price.
